Portable Propane Heaters Mr Heater MH18B “Big Buddy”

I purchased this propane heaters for an Arizona camping trip in mid-February. I knew it was going to get below 40F and it did. The ground outside my tent froze, but I was warm within. Now I must say that staying warm had it’s caveats. I have an elevated air mattress, so I had to position the heater atop a chair and it sat there firmly (I did not feel that it would fall as this unit is solid if not exactly heavy). I then had to place the chair within a few inches of my bed in order to feel the heat. This is due to the fan within the unit being somewhat weak. Now if you are simply heating the space itself, anywhere would be fine, but I needed the heat specifically on me.

Pros: There are two ceramic plates that heat up in the unit. They glow a bright orange when lit (are silver when unlit). This allows you to go full bore on the heat using both plates, or be more economical, depending on what best suits your needs. The pilot light is a small flame which stays lit near the bottom/center of the device. If you nudge the heater or bump it, the security safeguards will cut off the flow of gas to the pilot light requiring you to relight it. I had to do this a few time, but I didn’t mind. It’s all for safety. It’s also fairly lightweight (at least to me) and the handle at the top was very strong. I felt very comfortable moving the unit even when the pilot light was lit. The unit was also VERY quiet, even with the fan on!

Cons: I really didn’t have any, but if you have sensitive or weak hands, you may find it difficult to pry open the sides where the containers go. The clips are pretty tight.

I would definitely use two cannisters instead of one for this portable propane heaters. Using one cannister will result in the unit drawing so much fuel that the can will freeze and the flow will stop. Using two cannisters, I was able to keep the unit lit all night at the highest temperature-VERY comfortable! You do have the option by using a specific hose adapter (NOT included) of attaching a 20lb tank. This would extend the heating time tremendously.

All in all, this unit performed EXACTLY as I wished and was perfect for me. I’ve also used it twice in my living room about a foot or two away from my feet and it feels great. If you need something with more fan power, I’d suggest lining up a stronger fan behind it blowing through it.51MeNdw3nDL. SS400 Portable Propane Heaters Mr Heater MH18B Big Buddy

Most people around here use un-vented propane heaters indoors leaving them on for hours. Some even use un-vented kerosene heaters (Kero-suns) as a permanent secondary heat source. Now that is dangerous!

We use the Mr. Heater MH12T Single Tank-Top Propane Heaters Mr. Heater MH12T Single Tank Top Propane Heaters only for emergency heat when the power is out which primarily happens infrequently during ice storms here. We start Mr. Heater up for about 15 minutes until the room gets all warmed up and then turn it off. In Carolina ice storms your power can be off for days. This is not a “leave it on all the time and use it every single day” living space heat source and I would not suggest it as such.

You may be too young to remember the “good old days” when un-vented propane room heaters were very common in homes, especially in the rural south. In the farm home where my dad grew up for example, there were un-vented portable propane heaters in every room of the home except the bathroom which had no heat at all. Also in the kitchen (even today) many homes have a propane powered range, which is also un-vented.51R3NR355YL. SL500 AA300 Mr. Heater MH12T Single Tank Top Propane Heaters

I wouldn’t run a Mr. Heater any longer than you would run a gas range in your home. I really don’t think you need it on but about 15 mins every 60 to 90 minutes. As a volunteer firefighter I am well aware of the CO issue and I’ve been to countless fires started by portable heaters, mostly of the kerosene variety but a few electric ones too. So care must be exercised with all of them. This is a safer and far cleaner alternative to kerosene when the power is out and you don’t have a fireplace or you have run out of firewood.

My dad liked my single a lot so he bought a Mr. Heater Double to heat a big 3 car garage sized shop. He liked it but now thinks that a single would have worked fine as the double gets that big area heated in no time and keeps it really toasty.

My single unit works far better than gas logs to heat up a room. It does make a hissing sound that is not too loud but barely audible. A single will knock the chill off a large room in no time. A tank of propane will last about 30 to 36 continuous hours if you keep it set on low. I think this is a great alternative to other auxilary heat sources like Kerosuns or a fireplace. With an asthmatic child in our family, a kerosene heater is out of the question for us. This burns clean, creates no odor, smoke or soot. There’s no maintenance, no wicks or anything like that. You can store it indefinitely untouched and then pull it out and fire it up with no preparation. I will buy another one if mine ever wears out.

I have recommended Mr. Heater MH12T Mr. Heater MH12T Single Tank Top Propane Heaters to lots of my friends and family and have no reservation about recommending one to you. If you can’t decide whether you need a single, double or triple I suggest trying the single first. Then if you aren’t happy step up to the double or triple. It is really amazing how much heat a Mr. Heater Single generates!

It is rare to find a really good product that is durable and an excellent value. Mr. Heater Mr. Heater MH12T Single Tank Top Propane Heaters propane heaters are one of those rare finds. They are the Zippo lighter of auxillary space heaters in my opinion.
